Dallas to the Dominican Republic – a Destination Wedding Story

Ben and Amanda are two of the sweetest people I’ve met.  After spending even 20 minutes with them you begin to pick up on a deep connection they share- the way their eyes meet from across a room, the way Ben smiles, the way Amanda’s eyes light up….agh! You may recognize them from their dreamy engagement session we shot earlier this year.  When they asked us about shooting their wedding we were super excited.  And when we found out their wedding was in the Dominican Republic- well that was icing on the cake! So off to Cabarate we went lugging approximately 100 pounds of photography equipment.:)

It had been raining the entire morning in the Dominican- and not a soft tropical drizzle but full out tropical rain storm!  Ben and Amanda had told us they wanted to do first look on the beach and we really really really wanted to make that happen.  With no end to the rain in sight Scott and I sat down and prayed “Lord- we didn’t come out here to photograph a rainy wedding- could you please help us out?” Lo and behold…5 minutes or so before it was time to head to the beach, the storm clouds rolled away and the sun came out.  God is good! And their first look was incredible.  See what I’m talking about?

Honestly, I wasn’t sure it could get much prettier then that beach but we all hopped in a van to be taken over to Embocca where the ceremony and reception took place. And wouldn’t you believe it- the beach was equally as pretty.  The wedding ceremony was short and sweet with lots of smiles and tears, and before we knew it- they were man and wife!  We had just enough time to snap family and bridal party pictures on the beach before the heavens let loose and we all barely made it inside for the reception- perfect timing!:)Since they were planning their wedding remotely they made the wise decision of hiring an event planner, Richard.  He did a phenomenal job and everything was kept rolling right on time!

My Dominican friends love to dance – which I love! I was right there with them in the middle of the dance floor, camera in hand.  I had the insiders tip that a “Dominican Carnival” was to start at any minute.  I had no idea what that was and whoever I asked would just laugh and say “oh, you’ll just have to see it and find out”.  Imagine our surprise- and delight!- when a parade of wedding guests dressed in costumes came dancing out from around the corner.  That’s when the party really got started! Masks were handed out, confetti was flying everywhere and I think literally every single person was on the dance floor having a blast.  The night ended with a sweet thank you toast given by Ben before the couple was swept away on their honeymoon.  Congrats Ben and Amanda!:)
